Try Volcano Boarding down (the active) Cerro Negro volcano, hike the Telica volcano at sunset, and explore the town of León.

Volcano Boarding Cerro Negro

We did this excursion with Bigfoot Hostel, and it was a blast! The founder of the hostel was also the first to send boarders down the active volcano in 2004. In my opinion, this is a must-do when visiting Nicaragua!
Amount of time to allot: 6 hours (8:30am to 2:30pm)
Price: $30 per person

Hiking Telica Volcano at Sunset
Full disclosure, this should be an easy hike. There was some activity a few days before we were scheduled to hike- the main path wasn’t passable anymore- and our options were to either cancel or take the lesser traveled, much longer trail (about 6 hours round trip). Clearly, we didn’t cancel… it was sweaty, but worth it!

We didn’t spend a lot of time in town. We basically stayed overnight there while we went Volcano Boarding and did the Telica Sunset Volcano hike. That being said, we enjoyed walking around and visiting the León Cathedral (especially it’s rooftop).
